A More Accessible Experience at the National Ice Centre
We’re excited to share the opening of our brand new lift, making your visit at the National Ice Centre even easier, more welcoming, and more accessible for every skater. This new development transforms how customers with disabilities, and anyone who needs step‑free access, can move through the venue.
Our lift opening was aided by Ray, and here at the National Ice Centre, we offer her our thanks for helping us open this important new addition. Speaking to Ray, she shared how meaningful this change is for her:
“This lift enables me to be more independent, and means I don't have to ask a member of staff if I need to get down the ice side. The staff at the NIC have been working really hard to break down barriers for people with accessibility needs, and if you have any questions or challenges, they’re always happy to help.”
With the lift now positioned away from the arena side, skaters can enjoy a smoother, more independent route from arrival to the ice. Whether you’re a wheelchair user, carrying your hockey equipment, or simply someone who prefers lift access, this update removes barriers and creates a more comfortable experience.
This is a meaningful step forward in our commitment to accessibility. By improving access routes and making the venue easier to navigate, we’re continuing to build an environment where every visitor feels confident, supported, and welcome.

Accessible Skating for All
Thinking of trying ice skating but unsure whether the rink can accommodate your needs? Think again!
Our rink safely supports pushchairs and wheelchairs (manual and electric), so families and skaters with mobility needs can enjoy the ice together with confidence.
We also offer an Essential Companion Scheme, giving additional support to visitors who require assistance during their visit.
Accessible toilets are available on Level 1 and Level 3, with an additional changing facility located on Level 3. Customers wishing to use the Level 3 accessible toilet or changing place can simply take the lift to Level 1 and then transfer to the secondary lift up to Level 3.
