Defeating Book Poverty with the Children's Book Project!
Providing Children With An Adventure.
The Children’s Book Project is a registered charity dedicated to redistributing thousands of new and gently used books to children and their families. Did you know that in Nottingham and across the UK, 1 in 4 disadvantaged children owns fewer than 10 books, and 1 in 8 has none at all? This affects not only their academic progress but also their emotional well-being, development, and self-identity as readers.
To combat book poverty, The Children’s Book Project has organised book drives across the UK, encouraging people to donate their pre-loved books. The National Ice Centre was thrilled to partner with them and host a book drive from Monday, 10th March to Thursday, 27th March 2025, helping to provide books to disadvantaged children nationwide. We’re proud to share that we collected an incredible 565 books! Each book donated will be gifted onwards in the near future with an invitation to that child to go on an adventure and become lost in a book they can own and love.
From the team at the National Ice Centre, we want to say a massive thank you to everyone who generously donated their pre-loved books. Your kindness has made a meaningful difference to the lives of many children.
